One in five students drive unsafe cars

According to a recent study in the car finance news, one in five students would drive an unsafe car if it meant they could save money doing so. The research by Kwik-Fit proves that thousands of drivers could be risking their lives, not to mention their car insurance, to try and save cash .

32 per cent of students said they would rather spend 50 pounds out drinking instead of replacing an illegal car tyre . Men were reportedly more dangerous than women, with 37 per cent willing to take to the road in a car they knew was unsafe.

Other research showed that 5% of students had driven without road tax, 3% without car insurance and 7% without a valid MOT certificate. Customer services director David White reportedly commented: "It is only natural that students want to spend what little remainder they have of their student loans on leisure pursuits, but this mustn't be at the cost of road safety ."
