According to recent
car finance news reports, a luxury
sports car manufacturer based in
Holland will move to Britain to lower its cost. The news was
welcome by the
UK car industry, who have faced an incredibly challenging
year.
Spyker Cars, a Dutch sports
car company which only makes around 50 cars each year, claimed
that the move would considerably increase efficiency and lower
costs by moving the assembly line closer to the main parts
supplier.
The decision was welcomed by the Society of
Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The chief executive of
Spyker, Victor Muller, reportedly commented: With
approximately half of our
vehicles parts and components sourced in the UK, and virtually
all key suppliers being located there, moving closer to our
suppliers and engineering partners will result in substantial
savings and tangible efficiency improvements. We realise that
jobs will be affected in
the Netherlands but we believe this move is necessary under the
current economic circumstances and is in the best interest of the
company and all of its stakeholders.
