According to
car finance news today, pressure is being stepped up in
Ireland to introduce a
car scrappage scheme. Twenty Fianna Fail backbenchers are set
to lobby the
Finance Minister Brian Lenihan.
The scheme has been successful in the UK, bringing
new car sales up month by month. At this stage, Ireland is
being accused of doing nothing in relation to rescuing their
car industry. As well as the
car scrapping scheme, politicians called for a reduction on top
VAT rates.
Mr. Sean Connick was reported as disagreeing with economist
standpoints on the car market . He reportedly commented: I
absolutely disagree with their stance on that to a point where
I'm absolutely convinced they're wrong. That's how
strong I feel about it. I just can't get my head around the
do-nothing syndrome. I just don't think you can operate that
way. My job as a backbencher is to convince Brian Lenihan that if
we are making all of these cuts, we have got to be stimulating the
market on the other side.
