Car companies called to give evidence

Thu, 26 Mar 2009

The Business and Enterprise Committee will conduct a commons inquiry into how the government can help the car and car finance industries. The Committee will be chaired by Peter Luff and quiz reps from both car and car component companies in May.

The government has faced recent criticism over its slow movement to help firms like Jaguar Land Rover, who are calling for immediate assistance to avoid serious damage.

MPs are thought to be assessing the Automotive Assistance Programme, a £2.3 billion scheme to help car companies get loans and loan guarantees. Furthermore, whether or not a scrappage scheme will be introduced remains to be seen.
