Car rental price increases could cause holiday chaos

Wed, 24 Jun 2009

The recession has slammed the car market and the car finance industry, but the bad news could be extending to holidaymakers. Those travelling abroad this summer are being advised to book their car rental in advance of arriving this summer.

Prices for car hire have soared as car rental companies run low on stock. Travelsupermarket expert, Peter Smith, reportedly said: "It is all to do with supply and demand. So instead of increasing their vehicle fleets, they have just retained their cars . At Easter, there were a lot of places where cars were just booked out, so you have to book early."

Booking a car early is usually not too difficult, particularly by using online tools to ensure availability and compare car prices .
