Car manufacturer
Nissan is investing in the UK in a move expected to create 350
jobs in the
car industry . Key government officials welcomed the news, and
Lord Mandelson visited
Toyota and Nissan plants to hear the good news.
At this stage, the government has faced heavy criticism over
inactivity in relation to the
car industry . Once powerful marques such as
Jaguar Land Rover continue to face an uncertain future.
Nissan has set out a five year plan to
invest over £200 million into North East England. The plant in
Sunderland will also help to manufacture a new generation of
electric cars .
Meanwhile, both JLR and
car company
Vauxhall are struggling with
funding, and without large
loans cannot continue. Together, the companies directly employ
over 15,000 people, not to mention many more in
dealerships and
car finance contexts.
