Running a car is expensive, from car finance payments or the upfront cost of a vehicle, through to car insurance and tax, not to mention fuel and servicing costs.
A recent RAC survey indicated that the cost of driving a car is actually falling. The RAC report claimed: In real terms it is 18% cheaper to buy and run a car, including fuel costs, in 2008 than 1988.
However, some aspects of running a car are more expensive, including fuel costs. The RAC survey indicated that the average cost of running a car was £5,627 per annum. Lowering the cost of motoring needn’t be difficult though.
Driving economically can save money, as can maintaining your car. Getting a competitive MOT and not paying too much for car finance is another saver, and cutting premiums on car insurance is possible by building a no claims bonus and shopping around.
