Car dealers hit hard by the credit crunch are trying a supermarket-style discount plan to encourage people to buy new cars . Due to car finance restrictions, tighter budgets and fears about the economy, buyers are just not committing to new vehicles .
Car dealers are thought to be desperate, following a decline of 21 per cent in new car sales during September, traditionally a strong month. The vehicle trade is thought to be having a tough time, and manufacturers and dealers who cannot shift their stock are offering vehicles with discounts.
When consumers cant borrow money to purchase vehicles, new cars are suddenly out of reach for the vast majority of buyers. Car dealers giving away a free car means a loss is being made at some stage of the chain, although this type of discount is currently only being seen in America.
