According to news from the car market, Land Rover have unveiled a brand new concept (for them) at the annual North American International Auto Show in Detroit .
Land Rover, who generally sell large, non-fuel-efficient 4x4 vehicles (many of which never engage their considerable off-road potential) have unveiled a vehicle at the opposite end of the market.
While its not as small as some, the new Land Rover LRX hybrid is being hailed by the company as one of the most environmentally-friendly vehicles it has produced.
The British car company (who may soon become part of Tata, following bids to the owner, Ford) unveiled the concept car in Detroit. With three-doors and a 2.0 turbo diesel engine that can run on biodiesel, the car is a step forward.
The managing director of Land Rover, Phil Popham, reportedly commented: "The LRX concept delivers the powerful message that we are as serious about sustainability as we are confident about the continuing relevance and desirability of our vehicles. LRX is in every respect a Land Rover, but it's a very different Land Rover. At this stage, LRX is purely a concept, designed to help us develop our thinking as well as gauge customer reaction - but this feels like a hugely exciting direction to take."
