The green
motor vehicle
website Clean Green
Cars has released fresh new
CO2 data. According to the figures, the UK has achieved a
decrease of just 1 per cent on 2006 levels, despite the best
efforts of the industry and consumers.
2007 did see increasing sales of smaller and more
fuel efficient vehicles. The best performing
car manufacturer was
Mini, who decreased their fleet average CO2 levels by over 17
per cent. According to the figures, 2007 best
car makers included
Fiat,
Peugeot, Daihatsu and
Citroen .
The publisher of Clean Green Cars, Jay Nagley, reportedly
commented: The depressing figures for 2007 show how far the
industry still has to go. While lots of
money is being spent on high-tech research, we need to see
tangible results. It is significant that the manufacturer who has
made the most progress, Mini (and also parent company BMW), has
done so not with high-tech
hybrids, but with a host of incremental improvements like
stop-start technology. New environmental prototypes have their
place, but we also need practical action now.
2008 will see hundreds of thousands of buyers using
car finance to pay for used and
new cars .
