Despite an increase in new vehicle registrations during the course of March, and appraisal from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, the future could see a sudden decrease in the ability of consumers to afford new vehicles .
March traditionally sees an increase in vehicle registrations, as the registration plate change takes place. SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt was reported in the car news as commenting: "March continues to be the biggest month for new car registrations and this year has proved to be better than anticipated. We expect 2008 to be a challenging year, but registrations to date are in line with industry forecasts. The latest figures demonstrate the progress made by industry in delivering lower carbon cars and the wide range of opportunities there are for consumers to save money and reduce their carbon footprint ."
However, the near future could see credit conditions impacting on vehicle sales, according to the National Franchised Dealers Association.
