According to recent media reports,
cars that were damaged by summer floods in the UK and then
written off by
insurance companies could be reappearing for resale as normal
used cars .
Damage from something like
flooding is harder to spot than that caused by something like
a car crash, but being shrewd can make all the difference in
buying a genuine
used car and a dud.
AA Insurance recently put forward a list of methods to spot
damage.
Flooded cars could face all kinds of problems, such as damaged
catalytic converters and
exhausts, as well as dodgy brakes and alternators. All
electrical components of the car can also be damaged.
AA
insurance say to look out for damp and cover-up tactics, as
well as a whitish deposit under the oil filler cap. A
vehicle data check can make all the difference, as could a
vehicle inspection .
