The next generation of green cars is causing a major stir at the Tokyo Motor Show this week. Every major car company in the world are displaying their ranges of hybrid vehicles to wow the public. Green cars from Honda, Toyota and General Motors are all on display.
Hybrid cars are growing in popularity in the UK. For instance, the Toyota Prius sales figures climbed from 5000-7500 between 2006-2007. Globally, around 400,000 Prius will be sold this year.
The next generation of green cars revealed in Tokyo include the Toyota 1/X and the GM Volt. The Mitsubishi i-Car is another hybrid expected to be on the market shortly. However, despite growing popularity, car industry analysts say that an affordable, coming-of-age green car is yet to reach the market.
New C02 reduction targets from the EU could have a major influence on the green car industry.
