According to new figures from the Association of British Insurers, as many as 20,000 vehicles more, that did not have car insurance cover were seized by police this year, compared to the year before.
The new statistics reveal that over 100,000 vehicles had been confiscated by police, most at roadside checks, over the course of last year. The year before, just 78,000 were confiscated. Many of the vehicles (45,000 this year) have been crushed.
The director of general insurance and health at the ABI, Nick Starling, reportedly commented: These figures show that the determination of the insurance industry and the police to drive them from our roads is beginning to bear fruit.
Owning a motor vehicle comes with a number of commitments, including keeping up with car finance repayments, taxing the vehicle and having a valid car insurance policy .
