The average driver in the UK will spend 70 days every year behind the wheel of a car on company business, that is one third of a working year, according to a fresh report by Bank of Scotland Vehicle Finance . The bank suggested that businesses could be losing money due to productivity lost.
Furthermore, the study has an environmental slant. Apparently, respondents are not interested in public transport, particularly buses. 80 per cent of those surveyed indicated that their boss doesn’t encourage them to use public transport when on business.
The director of New Business at Bank of Scotland Vehicle Finance reportedly commented: There is certainly a clear lack of direction by employers when it comes to encouraging alternative modes of transport. Whilst drivers often enjoy the comfort that their own vehicle provides it is becoming evident that employers need to adopt a more flexible approach when it comes to travel arrangements. This is especially true when you take into account that over half of the drivers we surveyed said they weren’t comfortable making or receiving calls in their vehicle, even when using a hands free kit . That’s certainly a lot of business time wasted.
