The largest automobile company in India, Tata Motors, are considering the purchase of the Ford car marques Jaguar and Land Rover . Together with the tractor and utility vehicle manufacturer Mahindra Mahindra, the companies are considering a bid in a deal rumoured to be worth $1.5 billion, or £735 million. The brands are quintessential English marques.
Tata may also enter the deal in conjunction with Italian car firm Fiat, who own both Ferrari and Alfa Romeo . Tata and Fiat are already in cahoots, selling Fiat cars together in India.
Tata are playing it quiet apparently. A spokesperson reportedly commented: We have absolutely no comments to make on mergers and acquisitions. Tata may also join up with a private equity firm to complete the deal.
