Streetcar, the novel pay-as-you-go car club, is set to have a new chairman.
Sir Trevor Chinn, the chairman of the Automobile Association, is to become the chairman of Streetcar, a company in which he is thought to have made a personal investment .
Chinn was also the chief executive of the motor trader Lex. The move signals an expansion for Streetcar, a company that rents out cars for times as low as one hour. Car clubs are growing quickly in the UK, and with the onus on anti-congestion and green car policy, they are likely to continue their rise.
Streetcar has also raised considerable finance for their ambitious growth plans, with the aim being to triple in size by the end of this year. The company was co-founded by Andrew Valentine and Brett Akker, and has gone from strength to strength in the last few years. Streetcar vehicles are kept in designated bays, and members activate them using smartcards .
