Car buyers should be vigilant, insurer claims

Mon, 25 Sep 2006

For those people who have bought a car with the new ‘56’ number plates this September, it is worth being vigilant over the next three months, according to the popular insurance provider Norwich Union.

They provided a range of solutions to combat car theft, a type of crime that traditionally climbs in September, October and November. Norwich Union conducted a survey to find the results.

Preventing car crime and the consequent car finance issues that can occur will need extra vigilance. Norwich Union indicated that the centre of car crime in the UK was Sheffield.

The motor underwriting manager at Norwich Union, Nigel Bartram, said: "The sustained increase in car theft over the autumn months can be attributed to a few key factors. Most obvious is the shorter daylight hours – we all know that thieves prefer to work in the dark." Car insurance policies should be kept updated, the company warn.

So, whether you have bought an old car or have taken out a personal loan to get the car of your dreams, be vigilant about car crime and car insurance this autumn.
