The cost of driving in the UK is set to climb again, as car MOT fees are set to reach £50 for the first time ever. The further increase in price is apparently due to the computerisation of the MOT test. The cost of motoring is already high in the UK, with forecourt prices, car finance to pay for your vehicle, road tax, maintenance costs, fuel costs and car insurance all a consideration.
The increase in MOT fee is down to the extra time that it now takes staff to do an MOT test. Jim Punter of the MOT Trade Forum, claimed: This has forced many centres to employ extra staff. The computerisation process has not been without its hitches.
Mr. Punter added: Computerisation of the MOT has been very difficult for Testing Stations – the system is cumbersome to use and has at times proved unreliable in operation. Nevertheless the MOT Trade welcome computerisation, and despite these difficulties, resulting in additional costs and disruption to their businesses, have worked with Government to help resolve the problems – making it even more difficult to accept that Government incompetence and delays have cost the trade so much money .
The MOT test fee will soar from its current £44.15 to £50.35 – an incredible 14 per cent rate of increase. No wonder many consumers in England are choosing a second-hand vehicle to pay less, and shopping around for more competitive car finance loans .
